Control
The Auto Control and Auto Control Plus programs are designed
to assist the convicted impaired driver to make some changes
in their life style in order to reduce the probability that
they will drive while impaired in the future. The Auto Control
program is designed for persons convicted of a first impaired
driving offence while the Auto Control Plus program is designed
to assist persons convicted of repeat impaired driving offences.
These program not only teach participants about the alcohol
and its effects on behavior, but also attempts to teach
participants how to influence their own behavior through
psychological self management techniques and cognitive behavior
modification procedures. Both programs also assist participants
in determining the effects of alcohol on each of the important
life areas.
Areas of Research
The Center has a program of research to reduce the incidence
of impaired driving. Research has also been conducted on
determining the percentage of convicted impaired drivers
that continue to drive while suspended.

The Centers staff have also developed an effective
program to reduce the frequency alcohol abuse in teens and
is currently designing a risk assessment measure that examines
driving related behavior correlated with the incidence of
repeat impaired driving offences.
